| It wasn't a typical July day in Dorset in that it was hot and humid. The couple were lying on a grassy bank beside the river Axe, the remains of their picnic scattered about them, when they became aware of the sound of an aeroplane growing in volume. The noise was deafening, and there it suddenly was at tree top level, a Hercules transport coming directly towards them. They were paralysed. | Paragraph by: The Editor GB, London See others submitted | | The aircraft appeared to be struggling to maintain height, and smoke bellowed from one of its engines. As the aircraft flew directly overhead, Sarah noticed that the aircraft appeared to carry no markings, or an aircraft registration number. | Paragraph by: Martin Brown GB, Manchester See others submitted | | Sarah shaded her eyes with her deeply tanned hand, although it was an unnessary move as the plane was so close to them it completely blocked all sources of light. Gasping, she watched the plane head for the busy museum which she and her date had just left. Springing to her feet, she started to run, abandoning her partner. As her adrenaline fueled body was running, she scrambled into her pocket for a small cellular phone. Punching in the numbers she knew by heart, she held it up to her ear keeping her jogging pace. A deep voice replied "hello" in a bored tone on the other end. Sarah, wasting no time with greetings, simply replied "We have a problem, Chief" | Paragraph by: Kelsey Walls US, Jacksonville See others submitted | | " A large transport plane is going down,....I`m at the museum...you need to move......oh ..no!" The plane skimmed over the top of the three story building and dropped out of sight. " Sarah?..." said the voice on the other end. Sarah held her breath...and waited for the sound of impact. The plane may have missed the museum,....but was now heading for the heart of Old Town. "Sarah?" the voice pulled her back from her state of shock. Then...it happened. | Paragraph by: Linda MacDonald-Lewis US, Seaside, Oregon See others submitted | | There was a blasting flash, and rolling cloud of white heat rushing toward her. Sarah turns to outrun it...gasping for air as the cloud starts to overtake her. She screams...then sits straight up in her bed. Heart pounding, breathing hard and fast; wide-eyed. Her head starts to swim with questions..."Who is Sarah?"..."Where is this place?" She feels the sweat soaked sheets beneath her. Suddenly, it hits her..."this is the 5th time for that dream...it will happen sometime within the next fortnight....but where?....where?" | Paragraph by: Linda MacDonald-Lewis US, Seaside See others submitted | | Ashley was confused. She had only started having this dream recently, and she was sure it was prophetic. She bit her lip and tried to recall as much of the dream as possible. She searched her mind to see if it was familiar at all. She was sure she had seen this place-- what was it called?-- Dorset, before. It wasn`t in her dream either. Sarah too seemed very familiar. Ashley knew that it was up to her to find out what was going on and find a solution fast, before it happened. Of course, when would that be? | Paragraph by: Lizbet Kloot US, Columbia See others submitted | | Ashley dreamed very rarely and she was now convinced that this repetitive nightmare was significant . Maybe she could apply her mind to exploring it further using her her unusual background and educational skills to ascertain whether the names and places would lead anywhere . The only names burned into her subconscious were Axe, Dorset and Sarah .The name Sarah meant nothing to her and she had never even known anyone called Sarah. With a little research she learned that there is a river Axe in Dorset but for a girl raised in Scotland, Dorset was at the other end of her immediate world.. Ashley had studied at Edinburgh University but at twenty seven she was still there as a post grad lecturer ,having spent some years in between in one of those departments of Her Majestys’ Services which is outside the public domain. In fact although she had absolutely no experience of Dorset or its neghboring counties she was well travelled in her special situation at the University, it being a cover that enabled her to disappear for periods without need of explanations to any one ,especially her friends. She was also very familiar with the American way of life and while she now spent a lot of time there for her masters in Whitehall she had received part of her schooling close to Wahington where her American mothers family lived. Mom had married a Scottish laird and her parents lived happily in one of the most beautiful parts of the Highlands. While they were unaware of their daughters real employers she suspected that her father knew more than he ever let on . He was still connected with influential people in that part of government which one only hears rumours about, but which is responsible for the nations security.
No one meeting Ashley would think that she was anything more than a party girl although a very intelligent one . She had also created a unique position for herself in the academic climate of the University in that her courses were always oversubsribed and her lectures were even attended by students out side their curriculums. She was extremely entertaining in an erudite way that gave depth to her subject matter. She made people think deeply about points of view and ideas that contained a different dimension .
| Paragraph by: webster GB, Sturminster newton See others submitted | | But,there was something about theses dreams. Since she started having them a week ago they seem to consume her every thought. They were interfering with her ability to lecture at the university. She had to have a substitute teacher take her classes because of her lack of sleep and not being able to concentrate. She told the Dean she felt she was coming down with a bug, but how many more times could she use that excuse. Today would be her second day at home. The dreams were some how draining her mentally and physically, she felt depressed and weak. The dreams had a deja vu feel, like everything hinged on her memory of some incident, which may or may not have already happened. How was she to know? She had ways of finding out but she felt overwhelmed and didn`t know what to do. She was very frighten, paranoid that maybe she was going crazy, or maybe she`d been given something to make her hallucinate, or someone was poisoning her. This was not the Ashley McMillian that everyone knew to be a strong willed, take charge person. | Paragraph by: Cindy Toney US, Mt Airy See others submitted | | She forced herself to rise from the bed, and willed herself towards the shower, where she let the warm beads of water wash over her and cleanse her mind of the vivid dream. Dried and changed into her suit, she felt all the more better, and ate a hearty breakfast. She usually just wolfed down a piece of toast and grabbed a coffee on her way to the office, but today she felt like she needed sustenance. Her labrador, Jeff, waited obediantly by her side. She smiled and stoked him fondly. How could she let a silly thing like a dream affect her so deeply? Laughing at herself, she grabbed her briefcase and opened the front door, but was confronted by a familiar face. Too familiar.
"Sarah!" Ashley exclaimed. | Paragraph by: Dan Metcalf GB, Chippenham See others submitted |
